A Spiritual Approach to the Treatment of Anxiety

CE Hours 2

About this course

Anxiety is widespread and often co-occurs with spiritual and existential concerns. This presentation will review current evidence on the relationship between spirituality and anxiety, highlight how clients’ beliefs and practices can serve as clinical resources, and provide practical strategies for integrating spirituality into treatment. Drawing on empirical research and case material, Dr. Rosmarin will demonstrate how anxiety, when approached through a spiritual lens, can be reframed as a signal of growth, a pathway to deeper self-awareness, and a catalyst for resilience. Participants will leave with concrete methods for ethically and effectively addressing spirituality in evidence-based care for anxious clients.

Learning Objectives

  • Describe empirical evidence linking spirituality with the experience and treatment of anxiety.
  • Apply at least two assessment strategies for identifying clients’ spiritual struggles and resources.
  • Implement three spiritually integrated interventions that align with evidence-based care for anxiety.
  • Articulate ethical and cultural considerations when addressing spirituality in clinical practice.
